PLANNING APPLICATION FOR A WIND FARM AT INNER FARM, BURNHAM

The Brent Knoll Parish Council held a meeting in the Parish Hall on Monday 15 May to consider its response to the planning application for a wind farm at Inner Farm, Burnham

The meeting was attended by almost 100 residents and the Council received oral representations from 12 residents, two of whom were speaking on behalf of local organised groups.

The Council unanimously resolved to advise Sedgemoor District Council of its opposition to the proposal. This opposition is based on the Parish Council’s considered view that the proposal fails the various tests in local plan, namely:

Sustainable energy policy - policy PC55:

The proposed turbines are not (as the policy requires) sited and designed to minimise the impact on the landscape, utilising landscape features: they will have an unacceptable impact on the character or setting of the settlement of Brent Knoll; and will lead to an unacceptable level of nuisance to nearby dwellings and to the local school by reason of noise, shadow flicker, electro-magnetic interference or reflected light.

Land use policy - policy CNE2

The proposed structures will adversely affect the local landscape character or scenic quality of part of Levels (Western) Landscape Character Area; and will adversely affect the setting of the Knoll, which is mentioned in the Local Plan as a landscape feature of significant local importance

There will also be an adverse impact from the development as a whole on the setting of the Village and the Knoll, and an adverse impact upon the character of the Village as a whole.
