Road Surface Dressing "Workmen will be involved in carrying out surface dressing operations at the places and on the dates listed below. Surface dressing consists of spraying a thin film of hot bitumen emulsion on the road surface, followed by the spreading of one or two layers of chippings. The chippings are then rolled into the binder to create an interlocking surface. The road can then be driven over with care, but there will be some loose chippings on the surface which must be left for about two days to allow new treatment to settle down before being swept." "
