2nd Brent Knoll Brownies – Annual Report Sept 2004 to Sept 2005

Unfortunately Little Owl left during the Autumn Term 2004 and we welcomed Chris (Tawny Owl) and Val (Barn Owl) who answered our plea for help.  They have now agreed to become Guiders.

Brownies did their Hostess badge and did Christmas crafts and had a joint Christmas party with the Brent Knoll Guides.    After Christmas we made candle lanterns and joined in the Wassail at Westcroft Cider Farm.  The whole unit then did a First Aid course led by Julia of St Johns Ambulance Badgers.  Water safety was another topic we covered.

During February we made Valentines cards and had Pow Wows to plan our sleepover and Sally, our Division Indoor Adviser, visited to help us.  We remembered Thinking Day and also made Mothering Sunday gifts and cards.  In March we had our sleepover with a Mary Poppins theme and during the weekend, one of our Brownies, made her Promise.  St Patrick’s Day was remembered, Tania, from BK Guides, taught us some Irish dances and we also remembered St George’s day and took part in the District Thinking Day service at Berrow church.  Easter cards and gifts were made for family members.  Due to the local elections our first meeting in May was held at Brent Knoll Methodist church when Callum, a Venture Scout, visited and told us about camping and we had hot chocolate and sang campfire songs.

The whole unit worked for the Brownie Traditions badge and on the 26th the three ‘Owls’ renewed/made their Promise to our District Commissioner and we then celebrated with line dancing and singing games led by June from the Trefoil Guild.  During the month of June we practiced for Brownie Revels and also had a fund raising stall with four guessing games at Brent Knoll Village Fete.  Our team did very well at the Brownie Revels and came third overall.  Unfortunately, Barny Owl could not attend but two members of the Trefoil Guild stepped in to help Tawny Owl and Snowy Owl for which we were grateful.  We have had several enrolments this term.

Our last three meetings were an ‘Outside In’ evening and then a picnic at the top of Brent Knoll and our final event was a visit to Animal Farm when we were joined by the Berrow Brownies.

We would like to thank Jane and Tania, of Brent Knoll Guides, for all their help and support.  Snowy Owl now has her warrant and Chris (Tawny Owl) and Val (Barny Owl) just have to do a First Aid course to obtain theirs.

We look forward to another year of fun with the brownies.
