The Brent Knoll Sport Relief Mile On Saturday 10th July 2004, approximately 150 people met between 2pm and 4pm at the Red Cow to complete "The Brent Knoll mile" in aid of the Sport relief charity.
Participants were invited to complete a mile any way they liked. Some ran, other walked, some wore fancy dress, took their dogs, rode ion wheelbarrows and even used stilts to get around. Children took decorated buckets and collected additional donations on route.
The fastest runners finished the mile within seven minutes. They were Dave and Tim Macmillan, Mark Edwards and Rob Morton.
The last to finish in 42 minutes were Scooby Doo (Simon Havercroft) and a giant chicken (Dave Harris) both on stilts and very entertaining!
I would like to thank everybody who took part in this event and am delighted top be able to report that all donations and sponsorship money has now been collected.
Children charities both here and abroad will benefit greatly from our help.
The sum raised was something we should all be proud of - a staggering £1654.68
I would like to thank my friends for helping me to organise this event in such a short time scale.
Special thanks the the Red Cow and Brent Knoll post office for their support before, during and after the event. Also to Brent Knoll and East Brent schools for distributing leaflets and sponsorship forms.
I am hoping that this event will become an annual event and if so, it will be great to see even more people joining in next year. |
