NOTES
FROM THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL HELD ON 9 MAY 2005 NEW
COUNCIL CHAIRMAN AND VICE-CHAIRMAN The
Council unanimously elected Cllr Miss Jean Owen as Chairman for 2005/6, and Cllr
Derek Wootton as Vice-Chairman. FOOTPATHS The
Council elected Cllrs Borland, Humphrey, Brian Rich Sybil Rich to serve as
members of the footpaths panel for the coming year.
It was agreed to remind Somerset County Council (who are now responsible
for footpaths) of repairs needed to a broken bridge on path AX8/5 and to the
surface of path 8/12 up the Knoll. VILLAGE
GREEN It
was agreed to place the contract for the new hard surfaced pathway between the
Green entrance and the vicinity of the slide, even though the decision on one
further application for grant towards the cost was still awaited. HIGHWAYS It
was noted that arrangements were in hand for remedial work to the failed areas
of surfacing in Church Lane. It was
also agreed to respond to the consultation on the SCC Local Transport Plan
deprecating the jargonistic tone of the contents and commenting that it failed
to recognise or make provision for the inevitability of car use in rural
situations. GRANT
AWARDS 2005/6 The
Council agreed to make grants of £1,000 and £500 to St Michaels Church (for
churchyard maintenance and the toilet/boilerhouse/churchyard extension projects
respectively): and of £1,000 to Brent Knoll Parish Hall towards the
redevelopment project. Minor grants
of £50 each were also agreed to Sedgemoor Citizens Advice Bureau, Victim
Support Somerset, The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, and Vitalise (which
organises holidays for the disabled). VILLAGE
DESIGN STATEMENT AND PROPOSED CULTURAL HERITAGE SOCIETY The
Council resolved to support the drawing up of a Village Design Statement and
noted the steps which were being taken to set up a Cultural Heritage Society.
(It should be noted, however, that contrary to the impression which may
have been given by the piece in last month’s Brent Knoll News, the proposed
Heritage Society is not actually being organised by the Parish Council although
it does support the concept). PLANNING Fox
and Goose Inn: display of one freestanding illuminated sign, three internally
illuminated wall signs, one non-illuminated wall mounted sign and one internally
illuminated sign attached to boundary wall: no
objections in principle but signs should not be internally illuminated but
externally lit by shielded lighting to minimise intrusion. Nightingale
Farm, 102 Brent Street: erection of conservatory to side (NW) elevation
[Planning and Listed Building applications]: to
be supported as taking the place of a more intrusive garage. Morningside,
Wick Lane: erection of two storey side extension and conservatory, two storey
rear extension, partly on site of existing (to be demolished):
to be supported as a reasonable upgrading and modernisation of an old property. Land
NE of Ostlers, Brent Street: erection of dwelling [outline application]: concern
that proposal outside VDE, but in view of reasons for application to be
supported provided restricted strictly for use of disabled child, single storey
structure, and linked if possible to existing building Next
Meeting: Monday 11 June 2005 in the School Public
Session 7.30pm, meeting commences 7.45pm Michael
