BRENT KNOLL PARISH COUNCIL

NOTES FROM THE MEETING HELD ON 8 MARCH 2004

VILLAGE GREEN

A working party of Councillors is to be arranged to clear the build-up of general detritus in the upper area of the Green. The best way of dealing with the muddy area at the entrance continues to be kept under review.

HIGHWAYS

The Council was pleased to note that the Burton Row Speed Limit Order had been made and will (hopefully) have been implemented by the time these notes appear in print. Residents are asked to set a good example to other users of the road by driving within the new limit at all times. On a less satisfactory note, reports continue to be received concerning violations of the "No Entry" signs opposite the BWOC garage.

PROCEDURAL MATTERS

The Council made a number of decisions on procedural issues to ensure that its methods of working continue to reflect best practice as exemplified in the "Quality Councils" initiatives now being pursued by central government.

MORE ABOUT DOGGY DOINGS

Following on from the notes in the last issue, the Sedgemoor District Council Dog Warden has now confirmed that she will take up reported instances of fouling with the owners concerned. Copies of the form to be used to report such instances are held by all Parish Councillors who will be pleased to make them available to residents on request.

The irresponsible minority who continue to fail to clean up after their dogs should note that virtually all of the built up area of Brent Knoll is designated under the Sedgemoor District Council (Dogs Fouling) Order 1999 and that by failing to clear up they run the risk of a £1,000 fine.

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING

Residents are reminded once more that this year’s Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Monday 26 April at 7.30 pm in the Parish Hall. There will be the usual reports of Parish, District, and County Council activities over the past year followed by presentations on the Village Website and on the Community Speedwatch Scheme.

PLANNING APPLICATIONS

As most residents know, Sedgemoor District Council routinely consults the Parish Council on all planning applications in the parish.

Brief details of the applications to be considered are included in the Agendas for Council meetings which are displayed on the Parish Notice Boards for 3 or 4 days prior to the meetings.

It is not possible for the Parish Council to consult directly with all those who may be affected by a proposed development but it is always open to residents who are concerned about any aspects of any proposal to address the Council during the "Public Session" period which starts at 7.15pm before each Council Meeting.

Copies of the plans relating to each application referred to the Parish Council are passed to Cllr Jean Owen, as soon as they are received and she is always willing to show them to interested residents by appointment. The plans are also usually available for inspection for about another week following each Parish Council Meeting.
