BRENT KNOLL PARISH COUNCIL

NOTES FROM THE MEETING HELD ON 5 APRIL 2004

VILLAGE GREEN

The repair and refurbishment work to the play equipment has been completed and the facilities on the Green now look very smart. All users are asked to help to keep it looking that way, please.

A further attempt is to be made to get grass to grow better by the football goal, and a gate is to be installed across the entrance to eliminate access by unauthorised vehicles (there will still be a pedestrian entrance wide enough for pushchairs or wheelchairs).

HIGHWAYS

The Council accepted proposals put forward by Somerset Highways for additional warning signs on the approaches to the double bend at the Church Lane/Brent Street junction (following two incidents at this location). Further consideration is also to be given to the possibility of some realignment of the road to enable the footway opposite Church Lane to be widened.

YET MORE ABOUT DOGGY DOINGS

The Council were pleased to note that there has been a reduction in footway fouling and that more owners are now scooping up deposits into bags. Unfortunately, however, one or two people are then throwing the bags into the nearest hedge rather than placing them in the bins provided. Please use the bins - they were provided to help the environment for everyone.

CASUAL THEFTS AND DAMAGE

There have been one or two instances of casual theft and damage in areas adjoining Brent Knoll. Residents are warned to remain vigilant.

PLANNING

Elm Tree Farm, Burton Row: formation of access (existing access to be blocked up): to be supported as enhancing road safety

Elm Tree Farm, Burton Row: formation of horse riding arena and new access: no objections subject to private use only and no floodlighting to be provided

Kalanour, 67 Brent Street: erection of extensions to NW and SW elevations to include provision of hydrotherapy spa and physiotherapy room: to be supported subject to the provision of obscured glass in the windows facing the neighbouring property, to prevent overlooking of that property.

Next Meeting: Monday 10 May 2004 in the School.

Public Session 7.15pm, meeting commences 7.30pm

PS BROADBAND COMES TO BRENT KNOLL!

A piece of news which arrived too late for the Parish Council Meeting, but which is nevertheless very much welcomed by the Council, is that Broadband is to be available in Brent Knoll with effect from 26 May.
