NOTES FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 5 MARCH 2007

POLICING

The Council were pleased to welcome PCSO Claire Chambers  to the meeting, and to hear a brief explanation of her role and the way she will operate.  A new innovation which has been introduced is a “Community Beat Surgery” which is now held on the first Thursday of each month at 1.30 pm at East Brent Methodist Church.  Any residents wishing to raise any concerns, or seek advice, are most welcome to pop in for a chat.  Poster confirming the dates and times of the surgery are now on all village notice boards.

The Council also welcomed the offer from Mr Marsh to serve on the new Neighbourhood Policing Panel.  (This initiative was briefly explained by Sgt Tolley in his note in the January issue).

FOOTPATHS

The Council expressed concern about the possibility of injury to walkers from barbed wire strands on certain footpath fences, and the overgrown state of another path, and agreed to take up the issues with the landowners concerned.

VILLAGE GREEN

It is hoped that the work to repair the safety surfacing around the play equipment will have been completed by the time these notes appear.  Although the contract for the work was let some little while ago, the repairs can only be undertaken when several days of good dry weather are anticipated

The Council will also have assumed responsibility for the public toilets by the time these notes appear.

HIGHWAYS

It was noted that patching works have now been programmed for Manor Ride, following the Council’s complaints, and agreed to also draw the attention of Somerset Highways to problems near the Harp Road motorway bridge, and in Hill Lane and Station Road.

PLANNING

The Statement of Case prepared on behalf of the Parish Council and the Burnham and Highbridge Town Council for the Wind Farm appeal inquiry has been duly submitted.  The enxt stage will be the preparation of a first draft of the full evidence.
