NOTES FROM THE MEETINGS HELD ON 24 NOVEMBER and 1 DECEMBER 2003

VILLAGE GREEN

The Council (in the person of individual members acting on a rota basis) continues to devote considerable time and effort to the maintenance of the Green. Hopefully, by the time these notes appear, the outstanding repairs to the play equipment will at last have been completed, leaving the refurbishment and repainting to follow later in January.

VILLAGE WEBSITE

The Council received a further report on the now rapidly developing website: a separate article by Cllr Freestone appears elsewhere in this issue.

HIGHWAYS

The Council was pleased to hear from Somerset County Council’s local highways office that the proposed Burton Row Speed Limit Order was in preparation and should be published shortly. The Council continues to receive reports about the difficulties caused to pedestrians by thoughtless parking at the A38 end of Brent Street. There is of course no footway on this section and pedestrians encountering cars parked across the advisory footway marked by the white line often have no choice but to step into the middle of the road. It is recognised that there is no easy solution to these difficulties but residents of this area are asked to park within the curtilages of their properties whenever it is possible to do so.

COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH

The Council received a report from Cllr Jackson on the recent consultations and meetings with the police which should, hopefully, lead to the establishment of a local Speed Watch team in the near future.

VILLAGE LEAFLET

The Council also welcomed the publication of the new "Welcome to Brent Knoll" leaflet. Thanks are due to Cllr Freestone for leading the production team and to Bae Systems for sponsoring the printing.

PLANNING

Southfields, 47 Brent Street: erection of porch to front elevation and car port to side elevation: no observations.

Battleborough Croft, Battleborough Lane: erection of two storey extension to east elevation to include integral garage and first floor balcony to rear: no objections.

A report of the meeting held on 15 December will appear in the next issue.

Next Meeting: Monday 12 January 2004 in the School.

Public Session 7.15pm, meeting commences 7.30pm
