NOTES FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 20 FEBRUARY AND 6 MARCH 2006

FOOTPATHS AND BRIDLEWAYS

It was agreed to contact Somerset CC about the poor state of Lympsham Lane and a missing “public footpath” sign at Coombe Side.  The Council also learned that the grant aid towards the proposed information board, mentioned in the February report, was now unlikely to be forthcoming unless the Board consisted of nothing but information on footpaths with no information on wider matters of interest to visitors.  Since a favourable quote has already been received for the provision of a general information board the Council will now consider whether to proceed even in the absence of grant funding.

HIGHWAYS AND TRAFFIC SPEEDS

The Council agreed to contact Somerset Highways about the poor condition of parts of Battleborough Lane and Wick Lane.

The promised information about the traffic speeds logged by the “Speed Visor” equipment when it was situated in Brent Street is still awaited.   A further visit from the device has been promised: this time it will be installed in Station Road.

PLANNING

Inwood, Church Lane : reduce crown by 30-40%, remove deadwood and epicormic growth from Horse Chestnut Tree: no objections provided in accordance with good arboricultural practice.

Voila, Station Road:  change of use and conversion of stables to two dwellings, conversion of two further existing buildings to garages: to be opposed as lying outside the Village Development Envelope, requiring the use of a potentially hazardous access lying at the foot of the railway bridge ramp and the design being out of character with adjoining dwellings.

Fox and Goose Public House: display of two internally illuminated signs to gable ends, one externally illuminated freestanding sign, retention of two non-illuminated wall signs: no objection to externally illuminated signs, but internally illuminated ones to be opposed as out of keeping with the character of the building.(unanimous decision).

Next Meetings: Monday 3 April and Tuesday 2 May 2006 in the School

Public Session 7.30pm, meetings commence as soon after 7.30pm as Public Session concludes
