NOTES FROM THE MEETINGS HELD ON 14 and 29 MARCH 2005

COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP

The Council noted, with regret, Mrs Jo Wright’s decision to stand down for personal reasons and extends its thanks to Mrs Wright for her valuable contributions during her membership.

FOOTPATHS

The Council agreed to arrange the repair of a further broken stile on the path leading to East Brent, near the parish boundary, and to report various other maintenance issues to Somerset County Council (who have now resumed responsibility for the maintenance of footpaths, following Sedgemoor District Council’s decision to terminate the agency agreement previously in force).

VILLAGE GREEN

It was noted that another offer of grant assistance had been received towards the cost of the proposed hard surfaced pathway between the Green entrance and the vicinity of the slide: the decision on one further grant application is awaited following which the contract for construction will be placed.

HIGHWAYS

The Council noted, with concern, advice from Somerset County Council that Harp Road was no longer considered eligible for a 30 mph limit, and decided to ask if a 40 mph limit could be provided instead.

OPEN SPACE

The Council considered the possibility of seeking to purchase two fields to the north of Brent Street, which had come on to the market, for possible use as a playing field/open space, primarily for older children and teenagers, but decided after careful consideration that the fields in question were unsuitable for such use.
