NOTES FROM THE COUNCIL MEETINGS HELD ON 14 AND 28 NOVEMBER 2005

FOOTPATHS

It was noted that some further minor stile repairs had now become necessary.  It was also agreed to ask the organisers of the “Brent Knoll Run” to place advance warning signs on the footpaths to be used for the run in future years, similar to the advance warnings posted on roads.

HIGHWAYS

It was agreed to report two maintenance problems in Hill Lane to Somerset Highways, and also to ask whether (in view of its present poor condition) Wick Lane was due for resurfacing in the near future

It was also agreed to endorse, and to pass on to British Telecom, a request from the Speedwatch Group for consent to erect temporary signs on four telegraph poles in the village.

PLANNING

The Roserie, 14 Brent Street: erection of mobile field shelter: no observations.

Willow House, Battleborough Lane: crown raise to 5m one Weeping Willow Tree: no observations.

Orchard, 152 Brent Street: fell one sycamore tree: no objections subject to the provision of a replacement tree

Ostlers, 122 Brent Street: conversion and extension of two holiday cottages to dwelling incorporating facilities for disabled child: to be supported as meeting the special need and as a better solution than the previously submitted proposals.

Shrub Farm, Burton Row: erection of bungalow [outline application]: to be supported as achieving a reduction in traffic movements and an improvement in landscape terms on the previously published proposals, provided dwelling in keeping with adjoining residential uses.

Land to the SE of 1 East Ride: erection of bungalow: to be opposed as over-development of the site, impinging on the privacy of adjoining properties, leading to an unacceptable reduction in open space in the area, and exacerbating parking problems.

1 East Ride: erection of single storey extension and pitched roof to garage: to be opposed as out of scale with the existing compact bungalow, and impinging on the privacy of adjoining properties.

Peatlands, 12 Brent Street: erection of single storey rear extension and side garage, conversion of existing garage to living accommodation, including front bay window, and first floor extension above: no objections provided a turning space for vehicles maintained within the site so that vehicles do not have to reverse out into Brent Street.

Next Meetings: Tuesday 3 January and Monday 6 February 2006 in the School

Public Session 7.30pm, meetings commence as soon after 7.30pm as Public Session concludes
