NOTES
FROM THE COUNCIL MEETINGS HELD ON 12 DECEMBER 2005 AND 3 JANUARY 2006 FOOTPATHS
AND VILLAGE GREEN It
was agreed to place contracts for some stile repairs and reconstructions and
also for repairs to some of the safety
surfacing areas around various items of play equipment. It
is also hoped to take advantage of a grant scheme being run by Somerset County
Council whereby a new footpaths information board could be provided near the
Green entrance at no cost to the Parish Council.
As a condition of any grant, SCC has to approve the content of the board
and negotiations thereon are continuing. HIGHWAYS
AND TRAFFIC SPEEDS The
Council received the printout of the data logged by the “Speed Visor” sign
during its visit to Burton Row last October.
The data related to eastbound traffic only and shows that 3,254 vehicles
passed the sign between 16.00 on 24 October and 15.00 on 28 October.
Of these 132 (4%) were travelling at less than 20 mph; 684 (21%) at
between 20 and 30 mph; 1,918 (59%) at between 30 and 40 mph; 458 (14%) at
between 40 and 50 mph; and 62 (2%) at over 50 mph, of which 12 were actually
exceeding 60 mph. Given that the
speed limit on the road is, of course, 30 mph the Council considered these
figures disappointing but it was also felt that a much better indication of the
real scale of the problem would be obtained if the data for the 20 – 30 mph
band could be split between those vehicles travelling at less than 35 mph (ie
those only just exceeding the limit) and those in the 35 – 40 mph range. A
further visit from the “Speed Visor” sign has now been requested, as has a
visit from one of the mobile cameras operated by the Safety Camera Partnership. It
was also agreed to send a response to a questionnaire received from Somerset
County Council on the forthcoming Local Transport Plan.
The response will reiterate the Council’s concern at the low priority
being given to schemes such as the proposed traffic lights at the Fox and Goose
Junction. PRECEPT

careful and detailed consideration of the budget the Council set a precept of £14,000
