NOTES
FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 5 NOVEMBER VILLAGE
GREEN The
Council is developing a project to provide new play equipment on the Green, (in
part replacement for some almost life-expired items) using what is known as
“RLT2” funding which it is hoped will be available from Sedgemoor District
Council. It will however be
necessary for that Council to approve the plans before any funding can be
agreed. Preparation of the funding
application to SDC is almost complete and further information will be given as
soon a definite decision is received. ROAD
SAFETY ON THE A38 The
Council has been invited to send a representative to a workshop session, to be
organised by Somerset CC, to consider safety improvements on the A38.
It does appear, however, that only fairly small-scale works such as
lining and signing are to be considered: the prospect of traffic signals at the
end of Brent Street remains, regrettably, as distant as ever. BRENT
CORNER NOTICE BOARD The
Council approached Somerset County Council, as highway authority, for permission
to re-site the notice board formerly located at the old Brent Corner Post Office
in the highway verge near to the junction.
Whilst accepting this request in principle, SCC at the same time
indicated that they would apply a number of legal and practical requirements.
Alternative locations for the Board are now therefore under
consideration. BRENT
CORNER TELEPHONE KIOSK The
Council also decided to write to BT to complain about the removal of this kiosk. In 2005 BT consulted the Council on a proposal to convert the
kiosk to cashless operation but failed to consult, at all, about its removal. LETTERBOX
AT BRENT CORNER The
Council has been pursuing alternative locations for a replacement for this
letterbox and (at the time of preparation of these notes, 10 days after the
Council Meeting) it is understood that a new location has now been agreed. GRANT
APPLICATIONS FOR 2008/9 Local
organisations who wish to apply for grants from the Parish Council during the
2008/9 financial year are referred to the separate announcement elsewhere in
this issue. Please note that the
arrangements for consideration of applications have been changed slightly this
year, and as a result the deadline is a little later than hitherto. PLANNING
