NOTES
FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 4 SEPTEMBER 2006 FOOTPATHS
AND THE VILLAGE GREEN Arrangements
were made to progress the various minor works identified as necessary in the
RoSPA report following the annual safety inspection of the Village Green play
equipment, with particular reference to repairing the “Brent Flyer” and
arranging to infill the gaps in the between some of the safety surfacing tiles. It
was also agreed to raise, with Sedgemoor District Council, the problems caused
by the failure of the collection contractors to pick up and rubbish left by the
bins, and to ask that Council for a sign making it clear that there are, at
present, no facilities for the recycling of cardboard. HIGHWAYS
It
was agreed to investigate the possibility of arranging local cutting back of the
hedges in Crooked Lane.
The Council continues to receive complaints about the difficulties caused
by overgrown hedges (particularly where, as is the case in some instances, they
have become so bad that the growth impinges on the highway) and appeals once
again to all residents with road frontages to ensure that hedges, shrubs, etc
are kept trimmed and do not cause difficulties for pedestrians, cyclists, or
drivers. EXTERNAL
AUDIT The
Council noted that the 2005/6 Accounts had been approved by the External
Auditors appointed by the Government, without any qualifications or amendments.
The Council also recorded its thanks to its Internal Auditor, who
verified the accounts before they were submitted for external audit. FIREWORKS With
5th November fast approaching, and also an increased incidence of firework
parties to celebrate special events, the Council asks all residents to bear in
mind that fireworks can cause extreme distress to animals, especially when
extremely loud bangs are involved.
Loud and lengthy displays can also cause distress to adjoining residents.
Please be considerate when planning a fireworks celebration. PUBLIC
TOILETS It
was decided to accept the offer from Sedgemoor District Council to transfer the
toilets back to the Parish Council. With effect from 1 April next year, at a
price which reflects and acknowledges the advantageous terms on which the Parish
originally sold the land to Sedgemoor.
Faced with the alternative of closure of the toilets from next Spring,
the Parish Council took the view that they were an essential amenity for the
village in general and for families visiting the Village Green, and people
attending events on the Village Green in particular.
The Council hopes to be able to make savings on the running costs quoted
by the District Council once it assumes responsibility.
PLANNING
(including items from the 17 July Meeting) Land
to the south of Burton Row Farm: formation of horse riding arena: no
objections provided no floodlighting is
installed and the facilities are for private use only, in the interests
of the amenity of neighbouring residents.
Far
Side, Hill Lane: erection of conservatory:
no observations.
Next
Meeting: Monday 2 October in the School
Public Session 7.30pm, meetings commence as soon after 7.30pm as Public Session concludes
