NOTES FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 2 OCTOBER 2006

FOOTPATHS AND THE VILLAGE GREEN

It was noted that some further investigations are needed into stiles possibly needing repair.

The Council also decided to replace the Notice Board by the Village Green (which is suffering from rot in the legs and serious discolouration of the plastic sheets in the doors, making the contents difficult to read) with a new maintenance-free vandal-resistant board.  This will be funded from the unspent surplus carried forward from last year.

The Council continues to search for a suitable piece of land to form a playing field suitable for use by older children, teenagers, and indeed all those interested in sport or exercise.   Unfortunately no suitable land has yet been identified.

HIGHWAYS

It was agreed to proceed with the cutting back of the hedges in Crooked Lane: to take up with Somerset Highways the delay in carrying out the promised repairs to the verge at Church Lane Corner (now promised to be dealt with within the next few weeks): and to refer the damaged fencing on the Railway Bridge approaches to Network Rail.

FIREWORKS

The Council makes no apology for repeating the message in last month’s BKN.  With 5th November now upon us, please bear in mind can cause extreme distress to animals, especially when extremely loud bangs are involved.  Loud and lengthy displays can also cause nuisance to adjoining residents.  Please be considerate when planning a fireworks celebration.

PLANNING

Ferndale House, Wick Lane: erection of stables and formation of horse riding arena: no observations.

6 The Willows: reduce crown of Willow Tree by 30%: no objections provided the proposed works are in accordance with good arboricultural practice.

The Council also considered what action might be necessary in due course if (as is expected) the developers of the proposed Wind Farm lodge an appeal against the refusal of planning permission.   It was decided to make an initial, without commitment, approach Burnham and Highbridge Town Council to explore the scope for acting jointly.

Next Meeting: Monday 6 November in the School

Public Session 7.30pm, meetings commence as soon after 7.30pm as Public Session concludes
