NOTES
FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON 2 APRIL 2007 FOOTPATHS The
Council expressed concern about the overgrown state of certain paths and agreed
to approach the landowners concerned : it was also agreed to ask Somerset County
Council to provide additional waymarkers at the junction of paths A8/19 and
4/25. VILLAGE
GREEN A
number of bulbs kindly donated by a Councillor have been planted in the Green
area. At the time of writing these
notes the contracted repair the safety surfacing around the play equipment had
still not been started as a good “weather window” was still awaited.
As
briefly recorded last month, the Parish Council has now assumed full
responsibility for the public toilets. The
Council acted because it felt that the toilets were an essential amenity which
should not be lost to the Village. However,
the cost of dealing with any vandalism will now directly impact upon the precept
for future years and, sadly, reports of misuse have already been received at the
time this report was being written (early April). The Council therefore renews its appeal to all parents to
ensure that their children and teenagers act responsibly in all ways when in the
area of the Village Green. HIGHWAYS
It
was noted that Somerset Highways had undertaken to deal with the various
problems mentioned in last month’s report, and agreed to draw their attention
to further problems with the surface of the layby in Ham Road. BELLE
VUE VILLAS Following
complaints from nearby residents about the condition of one of the houses in
this block, it was agreed to ask Sedgemoor District Council to take appropriate
action DIGITAL
TV SWITCHOVER The
Council discussed the problems that may arise when the analogue TV signal is
switched off in this area (sometime in 2009 on present plans) due to the poor
quality of digital reception in some areas of the village. This problem will be considered further at future meetings
with a view to making representations to the appropriate authorities well before
the switchover takes place. PLANNING
The
following planning application was considered: Forge
House, 187 Brent Street: erection of two storey rear extension and repositioning
of conservatory to side elevation:
no observations RETIRING
COUNCILLORS At
the conclusion of the meeting Councillors paid tribute to two colleagues who
will not be seeking re-election, and whose contributions will be much missed in
the future. Sybil Rich has served
as a Councillor for 14 years and has attended 136 meetings in that time:
Brian Rich has served for a total of 27 years and attended no less than
254 meetings.
Next
